From my experience what these people actually want is confirmation that their experiences were normal and correct and that it’s the world that has gone wrong. That’s why confronting them with the fact that actually how they were treated was literally abuse makes them so upset, they don’t want to acknowledge that they were (and often still are) victims of people and systems outside their control. They were raised with the mindset that to admit something hurt you was a weakness. They were raised to believe that suffering through hardship silently is a sign of good character and strength. They want to be praised for being so strong, not sympathised with for being so hurt, they just don’t know what to do with that massive shift in perspective

me: “yeah I dated a guy in high school who came out as gay. it was before i knew i was a boy so needless to say it didn’t work out”

coworker: “damn dude was preordering”

other things this coworker (who is a cis guy) has done/said:

—got confused about why I’d never been a boy scout because he forgot i was trans

—told me he was gonna get top surgery scar tattoos to match me after i get mine

—laughs at all my trans jokes, even if they’re supremely unfunny

—calls me big dog (and him little dog) even though he is about as tall as two of me

— “I can’t believe she would say that transphobic thing to you. In June? Pride month?”

wait how could i forget!!!

—heard i was trans when i started working there but thought i was trans in the other direction so got offended on my behalf when he heard people calling me “he/him”

nothing I can say on this blog will be funnier than the things that come from this boy’s brain

Defend my PhD thesis? After all it did to me?? — Jon Piccini (@JonPiccini) July 25, 2023ALT

This tweet came for me.

People are reblogging this who are doing BAs and MAs and I am so sorry my friends, I know those can be difficult to, but they’re not at all the same.

A PhD thesis is it’s own level of pain, and then you have to defend it ;;__;;

some people will really see elliot page simply existing and feel like it’s their right to say the weirdest shit about him. it’s really incredible (and i mean that in the most literal sense of fucking unbelievable) how openly these people admit that they think we exist solely to benefit them — no lives of our own, no autonomy. as far as they’re concerned, we’re just here to look pretty and have their babies, to decorate and populate their world.

this is why i really just have to laugh when someone tries to argue that transmasculinity is anti-feminist. can’t you see how much our mere existence makes the misogynists short-circuit? how much our transitions go directly against all of the expectations they put on us? transmasc transitions are in such direct opposition to their worldview that they resort to just treating us like we’re dead because our lives simply are not compatible with their version of how the world should be. we make ourselves so egregiously and irrevocably unfuckable to them that they’re actually going around unironically mourning the “loss” of our bodies.

Hi Joy, which method of purchasing a paperback of your book gets you the most profit? I’d like it in hard copy but want you to benefit as much as possible

thebibliosphere:

Paperback it’s all roughly the same, so wherever works for you!

Though I try to encourage everyone to use bookshop.org wherever possible. I like knowing some of the money goes to indie book stores.

oh,

oh this is absolutely beautiful

I saw some James Webb Telescope scientists give a talk and one of them said this was her favorite image because she had waited and worked 25 years to see this.
